Methodology & sources
The method, in one paragraph
Your engaged visitors flow through one funnel: engaged, then qualified (capture rate), then closed (your close rate), producing extra deals. Order-value lift is added on chat-touched deals, and ad recovery on the engaged share of paid spend. Team time saved is a separate productivity figure and is deliberately excluded from the headline return and payback.
How we model staffed vs non-staffed chat
Reps on chat: a person sells live in the thread, so response is instant and the prospect is present. This lifts the capture rate (the "live uplift" lever). Each rep on chat needs a seat, so cost grows with the team.
Leads routed to sales: the AI qualifies and drops leads into your CRM; reps follow up and close at the same close rate. No live uplift, and one seat covers the whole team. Both modes use the same capture and close rates because both are salespeople; the live uplift is the only lever that differs.
Every assumed number, defined and sourced
Engagement rate (default 6-8%)
Share of all visitors who actually interact with the AI. Commonly cited live-chat engagement benchmarks run about 5-15% of visitors; purely proactive engagement can be lower (about 2-8%). We default to the conservative low end because this lever scales the whole funnel.

Visitor-to-deal rate (your input)
Your real end-to-end rate of visitors becoming customers. B2B sites average about 1.8-2.9% visitor-to-lead, and only a fraction of leads close, so the B2B default is well under 1%. We use your number, not a correlational chat statistic.

Lead capture rate (1.5 / 2.5 / 4%)
Share of engaged visitors the AI turns into a net-new qualified opportunity (beyond those who would convert anyway). Independent benchmarks put chat-to-conversion for engaged visitors around 10-20%, and adding live chat lifts site conversion by roughly 20% on average; our capture rate sits well below those because it counts only net-new, qualified opportunities.
Source: Olark planning estimate, anchored to independent benchmarks: Which-50 (engaged chat-to-conversion 10-20%) and Invesp (adding chat lifts conversion ~20%).
Close rate (18 / 22 / 28%)
Share of qualified opportunities your sales team eventually closes. Identical in both team modes because both are salespeople. Set it to your own number.

Live-chat uplift (+40 / +75 / +100%)
Extra capture when a rep answers live, because response is instant and the prospect is present. Neutral speed-to-lead research documents large advantages: firms contacting within an hour are about 7x more likely to qualify a lead (60x vs 24h+), and within 5 minutes about 21x more likely to qualify than at 30 minutes. Those are qualification odds, not revenue, so we do not use them directly; we cap the uplift near +100% (about 2x) on the capture step only.

Order-value lift (+2 / +5 / +10%)
Higher average deal or order value on chat-touched purchases. Research puts this around +10%; we default to +5%.
Source: Forrester / ICMI live-chat studies (about +10% AOV).
Ad recovery (8 / 12 / 18%)
Share of the engaged portion of your paid ad spend recovered because fewer paid visitors bounce. Forrester finds roughly 53% of shoppers abandon a purchase when they can't get a quick answer, so answering in real time recovers a slice of otherwise-wasted paid clicks. Applied only to engaged paid traffic, not your whole budget.

Hours saved per person (2 / 3.5 / 5 per week)
Time each rep saves because the AI pre-qualifies and handles routine questions. Deloitte reports conversational AI can deflect routine interactions for a 15-70% cost reduction, freeing staff time; we translate that into a conservative hours-per-week figure. Shown only if you opt in, valued at salary, and excluded from ROI and payback because it is only real if the time is reallocated.

Pricing ($400/mo + $29/seat)
Standard AI Website Agent: $400/mo billed annually ($4,800/yr), one seat included; additional seats +$29/mo (so 2 seats = $429/mo). Unlimited AI conversations, no token costs. Editable via "Modify plan".

A note on the headline number
Popular chat statistics (for example, chatters being about 2.8x more likely to convert) are correlational, because chatters are already higher intent. Before/after studies suggest the true causal lift from adding chat is smaller, often in the single digits to about 20%. This tool avoids the inflated multiples by applying a conservative capture-and-close funnel to only the engaged slice of traffic. For high-value deals a few extra sales still create a very large ROI percentage, so treat the dollar range as the decision figure.
