Use Olark with pages published by iWeb

While we respect Apple's continued quest for simplicity, an unfortunate side effect is the fact that Olark doesn't work quite as nicely as it should in iWeb. There are however, two options for getting Olark up and running from iWeb:

Your two options:

Place a badge on your page to activate Olark
Caveat: Users won't see an Olark window until they click on the badge.

~OR~

Put a real Olark window on your page*
Caveat: Due to iWeb limitations, Olark won't follow your users to other pages on your site and it won't float.

Place a Badge

  1. Log in to Olark
  2. Enter the FULL web address of your site here:
  3. Click on an Olark badge for your website:
  4. Now copy the following code:

     <div>
  	<a href = "http://static.olark.com/js/html/url_handler.html?url=http://www.yoursite.com&siteid=YOUR_HABLA_ID_CODE" target="_top">
 	<img src="http://dyn.olark.com/online/image.cgi/YOUR_HABLA_ID_CODE/1.gif" border=0></a><br/>
 </div>
  5. Open the page on which you wish to place an Olark badge in iWeb
  6. Select "HTML Snippet" from the Insert menu
  7. Paste the code that you just copied into the box and click "Apply"
  8. Resize your html snippet and place it where your desire
  9. Now visitors can see your online status and chat with you when they click on the badge!

Place a live Olark window on my page

  1. Log in to Olark
  2. Copy the standard Olark code from below: 

    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://static.olark.com/js/wc.js"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    	wc_init("YOUR_HABLA_ID_CODE");
    </script>

  3. Open the page on which you wish to place Olark in iWeb
  4. Select "HTML Snippet" from the Insert menu
  5. Paste the code that you just copied into the box and click "Apply"
  6. Resize your html snippet to accomodate the expanded Olark window and place it where you desire on your page (it won't float in a corner like a normal Olark window)
  7. Insert additional HTML Snippets with the Olark code for each page you want Olark to appear
  8. You may want to visit the customize section to make your Olark window expanded by default.
  9. Start Chatting with visitors to your site!
