session based userids instead of URL Based

Olark appends the URL with a session-id to load chat on different pages.

Example (On my site)
http://www.weddings9.com/wedding-invitations/Mustard-and-Pink-Handmade-Invitation#.UZIdVcqGOSM

Can this be removed and managed with a session id instead?

People share URLs a lot and this makes it all the more confusing.

I'm looking for a way to hide the chat window, essentially, end the chat session as far as Olark is concerned, once a user is done chatting with a live help representative.

This would prevent the window from popping up again on subsequent page views, but currently there doesn't seem to be a way to do so.

Webhook url GET parameters

Hi. When entering a url for a webhook it seems you guys are converting & or %26 into & which makes it impossible to send more than one get parameter along with the call.

Eg. www.hook.com?source=olark&trigger=123
ends up turning into www.hook.com?source=olark&trigger=123

transfer chat to specific operator

Hi !

I know that Olark offers the possibility to transfer chats, but from what I've understood, you can't choose who you want to transfer the chat to, can you ?
My company offers multi language support, and our operators can't transfer the chat just to any operator available, because of language issues. Is it possible, or planned, to offer the operator the ability to transfer their chat to a specific op ?

Thanks !

But now, when visitors send me the offline messages all the russian symbols they enter become non-understandable mess.
Parameterless GET request from olark JS on client (if IE).

Olark Dev Team,

I'm just looking through some of my Error logs, and I see a huge amount of errors pertaining to lack of parameter passing in URL's. Let me explain...

I see exceptions such as:

Error[http://www.openrent.co.uk/Rent/ReferenceDecision/] : Exception: The parameters dictionary contains a null entry for parameter 'id' of non-nullable type 'System.Int32'

ie. something has attempted to access this URL: http://www.openrent.co.uk/Rent/ReferenceDecision/

Without a parameter ie. /123 , my app throws an exception. It's not a valid URL in my system.

I see this happening on all of my public facing URL's which have this URL structure, but I couldn't understand why it's happening.

My users seem to get to the page OK, so I'm confident I'm not sending out, or creating mal-formed URL's, however, something is accessing these pages.

Looking at the UA's, I can see it seems to be an IE problem. I have thousands of instances from IE based UA's. Although, sometimes the google and bing bots run into the same issue (I assume they strip out parameters to see if it makes a difference - and this is unrelated).

I can see there is a huge number of IP's that are causing this issue - so I know it's not a bot, or custom scraper.

Hence, I looked into the problem more closely.

Upon analysis, I can see that the client-side Olark js will send a GET request to the URL without any parameters, on every page load, if the browser is IE (of any version).

Can you please fix this?

chat not showing up on subdomain sites

Hi I'm developing my clients site and their main site has the chat showing up no-hickups. However they have the following sub-domain sites that the chat is not showing up on.

I originally set up chat in the widget text area as Olark suggested but it wasn't adding code to body. So I added it directly into framework in footer.php file and the code is showing up in body tag now but chat's are not showing up on sites. Here are the sites:

http://www.9280-e-thompson-peak-parkway-34-scottsdale-az-85255.northscottsdaleluxuryliving.com/

http://www.19749-n-84th-way-scottsdale-az-85255.northscottsdaleluxuryliving.com/

http://www.21517-n-81st-st-17-scottsdale-az-85255.northscottsdaleluxuryliving.com/

If you can look into this and let me know what is going on I'd greatly appreciate your help. I did add the subdomains to the advanced section of settings so not sure if there is something else I missed or what?

Please reply to this to client as well as cc chris@relevantenterprise.com if you are able.

API needs an 'api.rules.eval' call? Rules not being run in single page app?

We have a single page web app which uses the history API. So page reloads are not the norm. It seems the rules are not being executed when the user hits the 'back' button (popstate event)?

We have a very simple pair of rules... show the chat box when the user enters a posting section of the site ('/post' or '/edit' in the url), and hide the chat box when the url is neither '/post' nor '/edit' The show rule works but unfortunately it never hides unless the user reloads the app page. Although we could code this with the show/hide api calls, it would be nice if it worked with the rule engine. Do we need to explicitly invoke the rule evaluation, or is there some other problem?

updateEmailAddress needs to allow clearing of email string on logout etc.

Just setup olark on a whim--works great! Spotless. Well, ok the API says beta and there are a few small snags.

We have a single page web app so page reloads are not the norm. Unfortunately there's no way it seems to clear the user's email address (set it to a null string) with olark('api.visitor.updateEmailAddress',options) since it complains unless it is passed a well formed email string. Thus the string ends up being stale / leftover from the previous logged in user. We set it to something like 'guest@guest.org' but then the placeholder text of the 'Contact Us' box when ops away gets that instead of more helpful "Enter your email address". If you could polish these few little details it'd be swell.

Cheers

Getting operator e-mail address in Webhooks response

I'm writing some code that uses Webhooks to import conversations and was wondering if there was any way to get the e-mail address of an operator instead of (or in addition to) his/her nickname. Ideally, there'd be an "email" key that'd always be set if the transcript item has kind="MessageToVisitor".

If there isn't, I'll have to manually create a mapping between operator nicknames and e-mail addresses. Not a big deal, just wanted to just make sure there isn't an easier way I'm missing.

P.S. We love you guys here at Nutshell. Keep up the great work!

DISCUS -

I get emails from Discus - I would like to reply, but for whatever reason I insert my username and PW and I am just directed to OLARK and I cannot find the link to Discus.

I would like to add my support for an OLARK created template that requires/allows insertion of visitor's phone number IN ADDITION to the name and email.

Just my 2 cents

chatnbox client side display name instead of → rightward arrow

Hello,

I was wondering if posible to to display a name on chatnbox client side display name instead of → rightward arrow,

This chat Is for logged in users so I have their name in session..

A js api option would work

olark('api.chat.updateVisitorDisplay???', {snippet: 'Joe'})

so instead of:
→ Hello
Support: How can I help ?

would be:

Joe: Hello
Support: How can I help ?

Thank you,

Is it possible to have the chat box always open, lets say in a DIV that stays static on the left of the page.

The user cannot close it, but its not intrusive since it is away from the content.

Minor issues

Hi,

We have Olark set up for our Real Estate sites. It works well, more stable than zopim. However, there are a few things we really want to change.

1. Sometimes, our chat operator will be chatting, and all of a sudden the chat will be replaced by a different visitor. As if there were not an extra bot available to answer the request. We've lost a few chats because of this, and would really like to change the way this works so no more chats are lost.

2. In any of the chat platforms, each time the visitor sends a message, the message received contains all of the visitor information as their screen name. As a result there's way too much text on the screen and it becomes hard to read. I would rather have our operator type !info to see the necessary info for the visitor when it's needed.

Thanks!

Push user information when no chat happens?

The Olark API has lots of good user information and is already installed on our site and can easily be added to client sites. Wondering if there is some way to push the user information via webhooks to our CRM even when no chat happens.

So we can see how many times they have been on our site, where they were referred from etc in our CRM.

Hiding Olark from non-US visitors

Howdy,

I'm trying to hide the Olark box from non-US visitors and it just ain't happenin' fer me. Here's the code I put in:

olark('api.visitor.getDetails', function(details){
	if (details.country != "USA" || details.countryCode != "US")
	{
	 	olark('api.box.hide')
	}
})

But it hides the Olark box from everyone. What do I need to change to make this work?

Domo!
