Due to the fact that LiveJournal filters out all JavaScript when loading a page, this tutorial follows the same instructions for other sites without Javascript.
-
Figure out which cool status badge you want to use, and copy the necessary JavaScript
It will look something like this:
<div> <a href = "http://static.olark.com/js/html/url_handler.html?siteid=your_site_id"> <img src="http://dyn.olark.com/online/image.cgi/your_site_id/1.gif" border=0></a><br/> <small>Powered By <a href="http://olark.com" target="_blank">Olark</a><small> </div> -
Make sure that you have a theme that lets you place html somewhere on your layout. To check this, navigate to the Customize your theme section and log in

-
Look for fields typically under "Additional Options" that allow the insertion of html code. See the images for examples...

-
If you can't find a field that lets you enter html, try changing your theme to something like Pistachio Mint or Draft Olive

- Otherwise, simply paste the Olark code you copied at the beginning of the tutorial into a field that accepts html code and hit Save Changes
- Now when visitors click the Olark badge on your blog, an Olark chat window will appear!
