Google Analytics Integration
This tutorial will teach you how to setup Google Analytics to receive data from Olark.
You'll need an Olark Account and a Google Analytics Account to get started. We'll assume you already have both.
Let's Go!
- Log into your Olark dashboard, and navigate to the reports section reports. Then click on Google Analytics.
- Check the box to enable Google Analytics for your Olark Account.
- We recommend checking the box "Track visitors who have conversations and the pages where conversations start" unless you are a Google Analytics guru, and doing some extra tracking on your own.
- If you haven't updated your Google Analytics tracking code in a while, you may have to check the "Legacy compatibility mode" box in the Advanced Options section.
- Hit save, and you're all set.
- Grab a beer, cook a nice dinner, it's going to be a while before your events start showing up in Google Analytics (normally we recommend waiting about 8 hours)
I'll go over the basics in this tutorial, starting with where to find Olark Events inside of Google Analytics.
-
Click on Content and select "Events"
-
Click "Overview" to see a list of Event Categories
-
Select the Olark Chat Event Category
-
Google Analytics keeps track of Conversations and Messages sent by Operators and Visitors. We'll focus on looking at conversations in this explanation.
-
You can see the number of conversations for each of your operators.
-
When you click on an individual operator you can see the dates of their conversations.
You can see here that Ben just works a few shifts, and had most of his conversations in late March.
Creating a custom segment for your customers who chat with you inside of Google Analytics:
Custom segments are an incredibly powerful way of looking at how Olark is impacting your business. In this tutorial I'll show you how to create an advanced segment to understand how Olark affects your bottom line.
-
Click the advanced segment button in the upper right.
-
Add a segment called "Visits with Olark Conversations", select Event Action containing "Conversation"
-
Now that you have a segment of just people who had conversations with you, you can compare it with other segments.
In this case the customers who have conversations with us are much more likely to convert.
- Celebrate :-), Olark is making you more money, and helping you understand your analytics better!
Want to get even more from Google Analytics and Olark?
To get the most out of Olark in Google Analytics, we highly recommend that you configure Goals, Funnels, and the Ecommerce options for Google Analytics. Configuring these parts of Google Analytics will not just help you get more from your Olark Statistics, but give you a much better understanding of your website as a whole. If you need help configuring Goals, Funnels, and the Google Ecommerce options, contact sales@olark.com and we will recommend a consultant to help you get more from you statistics.
