Everybody loves freedom, and the ability to chat from your iPhone frees you from your desk. The catch is that a lot of mobile chat apps (such as imo.im and Beejive) force you away after a certain period of idleness. If you don’t want to worry about this, there is a way to turn it off! The bad news: it’s a little hard to find. The good news? I’ll show you how, right now!

imo.im

First, go to the “Contacts” tab and tap “Profile”

Then toggle “Enable auto-away” to “off”

Beejive

Go to the “Settings” tab and tap “Session and Push Notifications”

Tap “Auto Away”

Tap “Off”

Even better would be to be able to toggle status monitoring inside Olark for specific operators. There are certain bugs in android Google Talk that cause users to be set to “away” even when they’re actively using the service on other devices – and this monitoring will cause Olark to bypass the operator for live chats.

Please make this an option we can toggle :)
