On the surface, Olark is an incredibly simple product: you can chat with your websites’s visitors. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have some really cool features.
One such feature is a (small) suite of text commands that start with “!”. They are:
!transfer
!push
!block
If you’re in a multi-operator setup and want another operator to take over a certain chat, just type !transfer and a message will be sent back out to all your operators, just like when the chat started. And just like when the chat started, the first operator to take over gets it. You can even add a message for the other operators: !transfer Hey Ben, can you help this guy?
When helping a customer find something on your site, what could be better than taking them directly to it? To do just that, type
!push http://mysite.com/myawesomepage, and they’ll be sent right there. You can even send your visitors to another site and keep chatting with them, even if it doesn’t have Olark! Just be careful; you don’t want to interrupt anything your visitor might be reading.
And of course, if you’re chatting with someone who’s being particularly harassing, you don’t have to take it: just !block ’em! That way their messages won’t get through. This only works on a per-session basis, so they could come back later, but it should get run-of-the-mill obnoxiousness out of your hair.
